If You Were a Fin, Which One Would You Be - And Why?

If You Were a Fin, Which One Would You Be - And Why?

At the shop, we talk a lot about fins - what they do, how they feel, whether they’ll magically fix your bottom turn (they won’t, but we all keep hoping). So, naturally, we asked the Dysujo team:

If you were a fin, which one would you be - and why?

Chris – The Loud Patterned One

"I picked mine because it's orange, black and got a funny pattern - dressed like a teenage boy - which apparently is how I dress in real life."

Chris didn’t specify a model, but let’s be honest, he didn’t need to. His chosen fin has the vibe of an off-duty skater from 2004 who just discovered wave pools - loud, bold, slightly chaotic, and somehow it works. It’s not about function; it’s about flair.

Queenie – The Trusty All Rounder

"Hands down, I spend half my week writing about epic boards and stylish gear - and the other half praying I don't pearl in front of the locals. Just like those fins, I'm here for flow, fun and safe surfing. Plus I match them in flexibility and questionable technique."

Soft, safe, and full of stoke - the ultimate fin for those riding the line between performance and pure survival. This one’s for the cruisers, the weekend warriors chasing clean lines, and the 7am “is-this-onshore-or-just-me?” crowd.

Jason – The Little Nuggets

"These little nuggets are old reliables. They hold in overhead surf while feeling loose and glidey down the line, with some extra pivot when you need it. I don't know what that says about me, but after nearly a decade in the surf industry, you kinda gotta learn to go with the flow sometimes and pivot when needed. How's that for cheese-factor?"

Not cheesy at all, Jason. More like a fine cheddar - aged, dependable, and still surprisingly sharp. This fin’s for the veteran surfer who’s seen a few tide cycles, knows when to dig in, and when to just let it slide.

Jenna – The “I Just Picked This Because It Looks Cute” One

"I picked this one because it's yellow and has a smiley sunshine face on it. Honestly, I don't know much else about fins beyond that."

Whether Jenna knows the tech specs or not (she doesn’t), this fin is all about cruising with a smile. Because, at the end of the day, surfing’s meant to be fun - even if your fin knowledge is limited to “it looks cute.”

Verity – The Big Pivot

"I'm a 9.5-inch pivot fin because I've learned it's not about the size that matters, but how well you can pivot."

And nothing says good vibes like a big, bright, blue, 9-inch... fin, am I right?

Verity’s fin knows how to handle a switch in direction - whether that’s on the nose of a log or mid-week crisis in the work group chat. It’s got range, sass, and a decent amount of flex (emotionally and otherwise).

Pavs – The ‘90s Grunge Performer

"This fin is basically my design aesthetic in surf form. It's got that '90s grungy, halftone, ocean-worn look. Kinda moody, kinda badass. Not that I am, but I guess I want to be? I don't know...to be honest, this performance fin probably wouldn't be the best for my surfing since I'm still learning how to turn and walk on the board...but it just looks so pretty! Yeah, I'm definitely not badass - I just want pretty things, haha."

Pavs’ fin is the ultimate case of style over substance - moody, cool, and ready to shred, even if its owner is still figuring out which way to point the board. It’s the fin for anyone who dreams of being a surf legend but is perfectly happy to just look the part while they get there.

Because sometimes, it’s not about how well you surf - it’s about having gear that makes you feel like you could.

What About You?

Are you a techy carbon-stiff keel fin that doesn’t budge an inch? A see-through longboard hatchet that’s mostly for show? Or maybe, like many of us, an FCS II Soft Flex with delusions of G10 glory?

Swing by the shop and let us help you find your fin - whether it’s for your board or your soul.
